South Oregon Coast Telecommunications Project - A partnership of school districts, ESDs, a community college, and other partners will install a Community Access Network and a Virtual Learning Network to provide our students and educators with access to educational resources through the use of electronic mail, the Internet, interactive teleconferencing, desktop video conferencing, document collaboration devices, and networked multimedia.

Computers in Our Future - Computers in Our Future, a five-year initiative funded by the California Wellness Foundation, will establish ten community computing centers in low-income areas to improve access to training, technology and jobs.

Rural Communities Receive Funding for Information Highway Access Projects - Industry Minister John Manley announced funding for 429 projects from the second competition of the Community Access Program. Contracts of up to $30,000 will be negotiated for each of these projects, which will benefit over 700 rural communities across Canada through access to the Information Highway.

The overall goal of this project is to develop expertise, techniques and software for disseminating and using government information at the grassroots community level. The Center for Neighborhood Technology and Roosevelt University's Institute for Metropolitan Affairs, propose to work with a consortium of civic, grassroots and community organizations to design and test an innovative, accessible community information system for the Chicago metropolitan area.

MCI & ALA 'LibraryLINK' Grants Million Dollar Program - Provides Critical Link Between Libraries and the Information Superhighway - MCI Communications Corporation and the American Library Association (ALA) announced today the ten cities selected for the 1997 MCI LibraryLINK program, the third year of a national community service initiative designed to help bring the information superhighway closer to Main Street, USA.
